60's rally teams relied on mechanical devices to help them determine whether they were on time. In most rallies, the average speed is given, and the navigator calculates the whether the team is early or late at each stage of the rally. The more accurate the mileage the less penalty points received. In the 50's & 60's the equipment list below was available to all the rally team, and still is available in the second hand market for all the historic rally teams of today - but at a price.
